Hedgehog Release Sites
Sometimes the hedgehogs that come into HHR cannot be returned to the place that they were found in. These hedgehogs need a suitable release site to go to once they have recovered. If you are interested in registering as a hedgehog release site for HHR, please make sure you meet all of the criteria listed below, then send an email to [email protected] expressing your interest. Thank you!
Hedgehog release site criteria;
Hedgehog release site criteria;
- There must be hedgehogs currently at the site. This proves that the area is suitable for hedgehogs, & means that the released hedgehog will be able to find a mate, bedding materials, shelter, & an ample food supply.
- The release site must not be next to a main/busy road.
- If you have a dog/s, you must be certain that they will not harm hedgehogs.
- You must be willing to support feed the released hedgehog for at least 1 week after its release. The food can be provided.
- It is ideal, but not imperative, that there is a hedgehog house somewhere on the site. This will not only encourage the hedgehog to stick around, but it will provide a safe & dry place for their first night back in the wild, giving them the best new start possible. Occasionally HHR can provide you with a hedgehog house.
